Director of Music
Employer: The Church of Saint Rose of Lima
Location: Roseville, MN (in-person; parish & school liturgies)
Pay: Not listed (benefits-eligible)
Type: Full-time — Director of Music (liturgical music ministry; 12-month position)
What You’ll Do:
Lead and grow the parish music program to support weekend Masses (4:30 pm Saturday, 9:00 am Sunday), holy days, all-school Masses, funerals, and special liturgies. Maintain regular office hours, run evening rehearsals, provide personal practice time, prepare musical selections, direct multiple ensembles (adult choir, funeral schola, children’s choir), and coordinate music ministry logistics with clergy, staff, and volunteers.
Why It Stands Out:
• Opportunity to direct a robust, multi-ensemble parish music program with a 30-member adult choir, a funeral schola, and a growing children’s choir.
• Meaningful liturgical work—use music to deepen worship and spiritual formation across the parish and school community.
• Stable, full-time role (benefits-eligible) with regular weekend and scheduled rehearsal commitments.
• Chance to shape ensemble development and foster spiritual growth through music ministry.
Potential Trade-offs:
• Regular weekend and holy-day responsibilities—must be present for scheduled liturgies and occasional special events.
• Position requires evening rehearsals and personal practice time in addition to office hours.
• Emotional/leadership demands of directing volunteers and balancing musical excellence with pastoral sensitivity.
Skills:
• Strong choral directing and pian/organ accompaniment skills.
• Competency in planning liturgically appropriate repertoire from chant and polyphony to contemporary hymnody.
• Ability to organize rehearsals, teach singers, and mentor youth and adult volunteers.
• Clear communication and collaborative skills for working with clergy, school staff, and parishioners.
Qualifications:
• Experience directing choral ensembles and liturgical music programs (parish/school settings preferred).
• Ability to lead multiple ensembles and manage rehearsal schedules and liturgy planning.
• Familiarity with Catholic liturgical music principles is highly desirable.
