Essential Maintenance for Woodwinds

I’ve been diving into the nitty-gritty of woodwind maintenance, and it’s eye-opening how much regular upkeep can affect tone quality. Just replaced the pads on a clarinet last week, and the difference is insane. Interested to hear what maintenance routines you all have found most effective.

I totally get that! When I replaced the reeds on my sax a month ago, the difference in resonance was incredible. But , finding the right brand and cut can be such a hassle; it feels like a guessing game sometimes.

It’s wild how much a little maintenance can change your sound! I remember when I switched to synthetic reeds on my clarinet — thought I’d gone from a rusty old bike to a shiny new sports car. @susan_lee45, do you think replacing pads on other woodwinds is as impactful?
